Training for Therapists

As a solution to the problem of self-deception, a problem Freud and those who followed him were unable to solve, Arbinger's work has profound implications for counseling and therapy.

We are committed to training interested therapists in the Arbinger model so that they can utilize these insights in their work with clients. The incredible success of our 15-week telecourse training for coaches, The Choice in Coaching: Arbinger's Mastery Training for Coaches, showed us how powerfully we are able to train helping professionals in our model over a 15-week period. This was the impetus for the creation of our 15-week training for counselors and therapists, The Choice in Counseling and Therapy.

The Choice in Counseling and Therapy
This program is designed to assist helping professionals apply Arbinger's philosophy to their own life and then extend that application to their helping relationships. Within a community of colleagues, participants will gain insight into how self-deception impacts therapeutic practice and client healing. We will explore an alternative way of being that transforms our approach and skills to bring about change for our clients, as well as ourselves.

The Choice in Counseling and Therapy explores the central question in life and in psychotherapy: Why do we resist solution to the very problems we have created? From philosophical discussions of Arbinger's solution to the self-deception paradox - that has advanced the basic understanding of who we are as humans and what we need to live fulfilled and productive lives - to experiential learning (through applying the material to our own lives), we will not only understand the answer to this question, but also how to help clients overcome that resistance. PLEASE NOTE: All professional programs require EITHER prior attendance at any two-day public Arbinger seminar (e.g. Leadership and Self-Deception in Life) OR prior participation in BOTH the Leadership and Self-Deception Personal Study Course AND any Getting Out of the Box program. Graduates of either program will be licensed to use Arbinger materials with private clients, receive discounts on Arbinger products and training, and become members of the Arbinger Helping Professionals Network.
